1.a.) Define transportation system. Explain the importance of road transportation system.[2+6]

2. a.) Define highway alignment. What are the special consideration while aligning roads in hilly areas?[2+6]

3.a). What are gradient and grade compensation? What are the factors governing the selection of gradient? Mention different types of gradient provided in highway. [2+4+2]
b.) Define super elevation. In a region of heavy rainfall, a major district road of WBM pavement is to be constructed. If the width of the road is 3.75m, find the height of the crown with respect to the edges. What would be the height of crown with respect to the edges if 7.5m width bituminous concrete pavement is to be constructed? [2+6]
4.a.) Two cars are approaching from opposite directions at 90 Kmph and 60 Kmph; calculate the minimum sight distance needed to prevent a head on collision of two cars. Assume a reaction time 2.5 seconds, coefficient of friction 0.7 and break efficiency of 50% for each car.[8]
b.) While measuring angle by theodolite at a certain deviation point by setting zero along preceding deviation point, the reading was equal to 230°40'45". The radius of circular curve to be provided was 200m.Calculate the elements of curve.[8]
